the proposal to change the highway system to a pay per mile useage model here in CA? If they do that I'm afraid I'd have to leave the state, and I really like it here, but that would be the last straw for me.

It won't happen.

Wont happen. But it'd be a good way to reduce the population and increase funds. I wouldn't want it.

I hope not, but never underestimate the determination of the wack obs in charge out here!

I don't see that happening. Too many people would leave.

They're wack, but they don't have the balls to pull off something this big. Californians will never go for this. And if they did, there would be so many people not paying it, illegals that drive but don't pay taxes and people would lie about how much they drive.

As much as I'd hate it, I think I would leave should that happen.

I would too. I'd probably just keep on heading further north. The pockets of the really rich in San Diego, Orange County and Los Angeles would love it though and they wouldn't give a shit, but I don't see it happening as corporations are leaving California and the last thing this state wants to do is to get rid of residents over road taxation. It isn't like the roads would be better maintained either.

I moved here in '99 and I am certain the same stretch of the 405 just past Irvine has been under construction since then...probably before that time too, now that I think about it. I might give Washington another look if I could find a decently priced house. I don't mind he rain.

Yup, the 405 is just a never ending construction project. it has pretty much been under construction since I started driving in 2001.

I broke free of the orange bubble and have made it up to NorCal now. I'll probably keep on travelling up the west coast, I kind of like the climate up here a little more, but don't hold me to that, in July I will probably be hating life when it is 110 out. . .
